Innovative Community, Resilient Future
A shared commitment to new ways of thinking and coming together sits at the heart of this year’s Professional Staff Conference, providing insights into how to enhance resilience, foster stronger collaboration, and embrace innovation and AI-enabled practices. Designed as a space for inquiry, the conference combines conversations, interactive workshops and keynote sessions to test novel ways of working, explore current challenges, and improve connections that support collaboration, resilience, sustainable performance and wellbeing.
Across the themes of Innovation in Practice: AI-enabled Ways of Working, Communities for the Future: Belonging, Trust and Collaboration, and Resilience From Within: Skills for Sustainable Strength, the conference supports you to empower, connect, and transform the way you work and engage with others.
Together, these themes focus on empowering staff in the use of AI-tools, enhancing resilience to navigate complexities without compromising wellbeing, and making work more sustainable by reducing friction. They highlight the importance of communities for the future, anchored in belonging, trust, and collaboration to strengthen teamwork, inclusion, and shared decision-making. The emphasis is on practical support across skills, relationships and systems that enable people to stay engaged and adapt as the world of work continues to evolve.
Subthemes
To help guide presenters and attendees alike, we have developed three sub-themes for this year’s conference:
Subtheme 1 - Innovation in Practice: AI-Enabled Ways of Working
This subtheme explores how innovation, digital tools, and AI-enabled approaches can improve everyday practice by simplifying systems, reducing unnecessary complexity, and supporting more efficient and effective ways of working. It focuses on practical applications that help staff manage workload, strengthen communication, and enhance decision making, while ensuring technology is augmenting human expertise and accessibility. Sessions will emphasise real-world examples and transferable practices that professional staff can adopt immediately within existing roles, processes, and resource constraints. By doing so, it will empower staff and build a workforce that is confident and well equipped to use AI in ethical and context appropriate ways.
Subtheme 2 - Communities for the Future: Belonging, Trust and Collaboration
This subtheme will highlight how we can build inclusive, resilient and connected communities that support collaboration now and into the future. Sessions will focus on how trust, shared responsibility, and inclusive participation help teams to work efficiently across boundaries, make informed decisions, and respond to ongoing changes. The emphasis is on practical approaches that strengthen ways of working together, improve communication, support shared problem-solving in complex environments and overall build resilient teams. It also draws on Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, which are based on community, connection, stewardship, and long-term thinking. These perspectives can help us reflect on how to work in more thoughtful, sustainable, and collaborative ways today, in a respectful manner.
Subtheme 3 - Resilience From Within: Skills for Sustainable Strength
This subtheme emphasises building personal capability, inner resources and day-to-day practices alongside organisational demands, helping staff maintain wellbeing while delivering high-quality outcomes. It will focus on practical, evidence informed skills that support professional staff to manage workload, navigate change, and sustain energy in complex work environments. Sessions will explore tools and approaches for recovery, pacing, boundaries, focus, and setting realistic expectations, with direct application to day-to-day work and participants will leave with practical strategies they can apply immediately to support sustainable performance at work and beyond.
